Oncoabdominal and general surgery

The Department of General Surgery and Onco-abdominal Surgery of the Tbilisi Cancer Center is equipped with the latest modern technologies and equipment, full equipped reanimational units necessary for the management of post-surgical period and wards: modern surgical equipment and instruments necessary for General Surgical, onco-abdominal, for open as well, as for less invasive surgical interventions.

In General and Oncology Surgery Department all types and levels of generalized surgical and oncological operation are being conducted on the following organs: esophagus, stomach, duodenum, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, liver, gallbladder, bladder ducts, pancreas, spleen, diaphragm, retroperitoneal area: also, surgeries of any kinds of hernia connected with the abdominal caviry and diaphragm, weight correction (bariatrial) and diagnositical surgeries, as in an open manner as well ass using laparoscopy.

Since 2012 the “Intarbim” apparatus, aprobated in the world’s leading oncological clinics, was brought in the Clinic, which implies ultra-modern intraoperative radiation therapy for oncologic patients. In the course of operation, after the removal of tumor formation, a specially selected applicator of intrabeam will be placed in the focus of the disease and irradiate the patient during 20-30 minutes. The method allows the tumor cells to be destroyed in the 1-2 cm diameter around the applicator, which prevents the development of recurrence. Unlike radiation therapy, in this case, the irradiation is directly taking place in the focus of desease, that protects healthy tissues from unnecessary exposure.
